Rochelle Dahl wins
at 2006 Wearable Art Awards
Rochelle Dahl, a Vancouver Island
designer, has won top marks
in the 2006 Wearable Art Awards held in Port Moody, British
Columbia, Canada on September 23, 2006. Her dress creation
entitled, ‘Memories’ won
the Pacific Coast Terminals Recycled Category in this prestigious
competition. The dress is made of over 200 strips of photographic
negatives, all taken by the Rochelle, as well as recycled camera
parts. The dress represents a visual timeline of approximately
14 years worth of moments and events of her life captured on
film, with the concept being recycled memories.
The 2006 Wearable
Art Awards is an annual wearable art fashion competition
organized by the Port Moody Arts Centre in Port
Moody, BC. The Call for Entry was sent out across Canada – and
77 entries were received from artists in Hong Kong, the United
States and across Canada. There were five categories: BC Hydro
Children’s Category, Coast Capital Savings Headdresses,
Pacific Coast Terminals Recycled Category, Spike Pub Brassiere
Fantasque, and Onni Open Category.
Rochelle brings unique experience
to her fashion, jewelry and accessory designs, since she's
