Welcome to Logo Notions. As this column progresses, with future Creative Latitude updates, I hope to alternate essays on various aspects of logo design and interviews with industry professionals specializing in the creation of identity. I will pass on their answers to the questions many often ask about designing the symbols that come to represent businesses, products, organizations and events.

In addition, I will be reviewing recent or new books focusing on the design of logos. While there are many design annuals and other volumes displaying hundreds of examples of individual logos, I plan on commenting on the latest, or recent, books that delve into the concept and creative processes used by designers to produce that one symbol that often becomes so recognizable to consumers – and other designers. Along the way, I will also suggest other books that may be helpful to designers in overcoming the challenges of designing a logo for a client. Hopefully publishers of logo design books will also allow me to make readers aware of logo design books on their future production schedules.

I look forward to sharing my passion for the design of logos with other designers having the same interest.
