SOLUTION:
Looking through the photos, I saw that many of them featured
the actual cleaning process – corridors with buckets
and chemicals, etc. I decided to steer clear of these and
focus on beautiful finished surfaces – I mean, this
is what the customer is really after. I selected the best
shots and retouched them to make them sparkle.
The next stage
was the logo. I changed this somewhat to give it more elegance
and to make it sit more effectively on the
page and alongside the text.
I tried within the design to
capture the different textures and surfaces of stone. I even
resorted to an overall background
which is rare for me. I thought I could justify it because
of the small amount of text and therefore unnecessary need
for extensive scrolling.
The client was very keen on some
sort of animation on the home page, so I incorporated a Flash
movie as one of the images
that scrolled a list of all the natural stone types.
The
web structure I decided to keep simple with just a few pages.
There was hardly any text. I produced visuals in Photoshop
and posted these on the server as flat jpegs that could be
clicked through for viewing.
Copy was then supplied and the
site built in simple html for total browser compatibility
(is that possible?). Suddenly
the client decided that he wants to add another section to
the site "Stone guide." No reason except one of
his competitors has this feature on their site. Unfortunately
this section featured rather a lot of text, and the client
didn't want to move it into more than one
page. I did squeeze it in to one page, but if this had been
a requirement in the first place, I think the design would
have followed a slightly different direction.
AFTER:

Alina's Feedback: John Amy's redesign of Natural Stone Care's website really
shines (sorry, I couldn't resist). John was wise to focus
on attractive images of well-maintained and high end stone
surfaces. It speaks volumes for the service his client provides.
John's layout and color scheme is very tasteful as well.
It's easy to read and navigate and presents a very professional
image.
